Ronald G. Dougherty

Died: Friday, April 06, 2012
Ronald G. Dougherty Sr., of Arvada, died Thursday, March 15, 2012, shortly after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Carole Dougherty, of 54 years; two daughters, Lynn Brofsky (Chris Fusare), of Bainbridge Island, Wash., and Melissa Nethery (Sean Nethery), of Aurora; two sons, Ron Dougherty Jr, and Chris Dougherty (Vickie), both of Arvada; and four grandchildren, Nichole Rossetter (Forest Shade Rossetter), Adam Dougherty, Isabel Brofsky and Elinor Nethery.

Ron was born June 23, 1933, in Indianapolis, Ind., to parents Marion and Jane Dougherty, and had one sister, Marilyn Thompson. Ron went to the University of Cincinnati where he received a bachelor of arts degree in architecture.

Ron and Carole met in Cincinnati and married in the home of Dewy and Hazel McKnight, Carole's parents, in Partridge, Ky., in 1958. They resided in Cincinnati while Ron finished his degree, then moved to Colorado in the early 1960s where they stayed and raised their family.

Ron started his architectural practice when he was 32 and worked until he died designing for commercial, office, retail, religious and multifamily developments. His religious-structure designs embody his most significant projects, including the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Aurora, St. Mark Catholic Church in Westminster, Notre Dame Catholic Church in Denver, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Northglenn.

Ron contributed much to his community. As an involved father, he was a Boy Scout troop leader, and in his business life he was a member of the Adams County Board of Appeals, the Jefferson County 1-76/Clear Creek investigative group and the Jefferson County Grand Jury.

He was greatly loved and will be missed.

Funeral service was March 23 at Aspen Mortuary Chapel, and Ron was buried at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
